The song, "On That Day," captures the essence of the September 11th tragedies, and also encompasses much of what I feel is the tangibly compassionate and maybe even hopeful heartbeat of America’s response to the crisis.
As a writer/musician, I surprised myself when, for over a week after the tragedies, I wrote nothing and said little. Usually I have plenty to say, and it often emerges as song, epistle, or poem. But it felt as if I had all my feelings of response locked up within me…until one night, over a week later, when I couldn’t sleep. I jumped out of bed with the first two lines of the song, which would become, over the next few hours, “On That Day.”
“On That Day” has a presence and sensitivity about it that reaches straight into the heart. I know this is true, because people from extremely varied walks of life and faith are softened and moved to tears by it, and yet they feel that it offers a hopeful ray of light.
I am extremely active in the creative arena, but have always been shy of (read: "allergic to!") promoting and publishing myself. So my experience with this is truly limited. But I do know that “On That Day” needs to get into trustworthy hands that will move it forward to become a statement of these powerful times our country is experiencing. I see it as a way to help.
PLEASE take the time to listen to this song (CD or short mp3/audio stream sample):
There are two versions of it on the CD: (1) first a long, uncut one, and (2) a shorter, more radio friendly / upfront vocally, and somewhat less ethereal version. The lyrics are below. The lyrics of the shorter version end before the last instrumental bridge. The CD costs $7.00 and you can purchase it here online.
* No stranger to crisis, I live on that little Caribbean island whose volcano has recently devoured our only town and left 2/3 of the island unhabitable. I know the depth of loss and the pain of never again being able to “go back there,” because “there” is gone forever.

It was a morning just like all the
rest.
With plans and promises to be fulfilled,
Chorus:
And on that day, unlike other days,
It is the morning of all of the rest,
For only love removes the face of
fear.
