Hello, Dear People and Happy Lock Down Liberation! Here are some new paintings that I’ve done, mostly in the Corona Daze, with the unexpected gift of extra time!!!!! Some of these I did a bit earlier but they were not “done.” And some of them still may not be, but I am posting for now anyway and will post later any that get improved. As you’ll see, there are a number of subjects, as I’m pushing myself beyond my comfort zone, trying to learn new stuff. I hope you enjoy! (The car and guy pic is definitely not done yet, but since it is of David, I wanted to include it!) ☺️

a painting I forgot!

“About Those Flowers…” ( watercolour collage with tissue paper

This was an experiment that I LOVED doing! I used layers of watercolour on watercolur block paper, using some tissue paper that I painted too. It sold to an art therapist who lives in Canada. I was so pleased, especially because it was one of my first pieces, and an experiment, at that!

When these paintings go up on the gallery wall at Hilltop Coffee House, I am usually trying to just fill in an empty space, and have really not intended for them to actually be for sale. So imagine my surprise when they do! And they actually are doing so…Does this mean I might be turning into a real artist? Ya think?

some new paintings: Tinies!

“Remembering When…” (acrylic on 4X4 inch stretched canvas)

Jesse and Elise (son & daughter-in-love who live in California) got me these CUTE little 4X4 inch canvasses! I’ll call em “tinies.” The idea popped into my head to try my hand at some scenes from days gone by…before our volcano awakened and ate our only Town, Plymouth. So this, above, is the second one. (The first one sold right away, but maybe I could ask the folks who bought it to send me a jpg of it, just so I can have the collection here…you know…for the fun of it.)

These are not terribly time-consuming. Well, truthfully, learning how to paint tiny has been taking some some time to figure out. But my hope is that they will become not very time consuming, and so warrant their very affordable price tag. I might here add that buildings are so not my fancy to paint. At least that’s what I thought…until I started these. We change, don’t we? That’s a great thing about humans!

Here’s another Tiny:

“The Island House” (acrylic on 4X4 inch stretched canvas)

This is of a lovely building that was last known as The Island House,in Plymouth. It was a lovely art gallery and gift shop. Our little colonial Town was so much more special and pretty, really, than we all probably realized, back before it completely disappeared under meters and meters of wet ash that rumbled down the flanks of the volcano….burying all.

A couple new pieces of art work

Here’s a picture of our grand-daughter, Autumn Grace. I call her Peach. So the title of this pic is Beach Peach, as here she is investigating the fascinating rocks along the shore.

And here’s another recent picture of Autumn, called Princess Peach

Flying Lessons! (SOLD)

“Flying Lessons!”  Acrylic on canvas (SOLD)

Memories of “flying” on my father’s feet when I was small, and of “flying” my own children and grandchildren in the same manner. The dolphins showed up as a bit of a playful afterthought, as I reckon that’s what they’re doing too…practicing flying!

BeHold!

                           BeHold!

      (acrylic on canvasPrivate Collection)

This is a painting of my three darling peeps (aka the grandchildren). I completely repainted, with different colours, the sky, the sea and them several times, trying to get it to feel right. That is, I suppose, one of the perks of acrylics that you definitely don’t get with watercolours! The original photo that Sunny took had a coppery looking sea and sky glow. Although I tried (and tried,) I couldn’t get it to translate to satisfaction, so I ended up changing the look altogether. I hope it works.

Underground River – acrylic on canvas (SOLD)

 Underground River

 (Acrylic on canvas – sold)

This is a place, in my actual dream world, that I have visited many times through the years. There is always a mysterious something about it, which is a little unnerving. Yet I am always delighted to find myself there in my dream, and I think to myself, “Oh,wow! I’m HERE again!” The approach to the place is never exactly the same,so I’m going along a path and suddenly I realize I am there and that an adventure awaits me. It’s like a cue to pay attention to what will be a very interesting dream. This painting is the first in what I am calling my Dreamscape Series. I am new to acrylics. You can tell too, as I use the paint here in much more of a sparing, watercolour manner, as I’m more accustomed to water colour. But…with every new medium and piece I learn a little more!

Rope Swing Blossoms! – acrylic on canvas board (SOLD)

             “Ready or Not…” (sold)

  (Acrylic on canvas board)

This is #3 in the Dreamscape series. For now it’s called Rope Swing Blossoms, but I’m thinking of “Ready or Not…”. The tree sort of entered itself as a recent inspiration  from an amazing acacia tree that we have here on the property at Gingerbread hill. A couple weeks ago, it was in its glory in  full bloom! I need to improve the photography bit. Seems too easy to sacrifice colour for light or clarity…and using a flash just causes reflection and glare. As I said…definitely just learning! Anyway…here is a happy tree, with a rope that will swing you over into some mystery! Click on image to see a bigger image.

“Hidden Badger” acrylic painting on canvas

             Hidden Badger

           (Acrylic on canvas)SOLD

This is #2 of the Dreamscapes. The mountains actually rise a bit higher in the distance. I hope it makes you smile. My sister, Ceese, came up with “Hidden Badger,” as an alternative name to “What Dreams May Come.” She’s so clever! Thanks, Ceese!
